Guide
A personalized storybook or a photo book?
Both put someone you love on the page. They do very different jobs, and the right one depends on what you want the gift to say.

From a sample book we made. The person in it is invented, not a customer.
What a photo book does well
A photo book collects what really happened: a year, a trip, a family. It is a record, and its power is that every picture is true. The best ones take real effort to put together, choosing and ordering dozens of photos, and that effort is part of the gift.
What a storybook does instead
A personalized storybook puts the person in places no photo could: finding a warm egg in an attic, captaining a crew that is completely lost, walking into a market that appeared an hour ago. It is imagination rather than record, and it tends to make people laugh or go quiet rather than reminisce.

When to choose which
Choose a photo book when the gift is about time you have spent together and you have the photos and the hours to do it justice. Choose a storybook when you want to show the person in a new light, when the gift is due soon, or when you have one good photo and not a hundred.
They also work together: a storybook for the day, and a photo book of the year that follows.
Which is more personal?
Both are personal in different ways. A photo book shows shared memories; a storybook shows the person, drawn into a story. The one that matches what you want to say is the more personal one.
Which is faster to make?
A storybook drawn from one photo takes a few minutes of your time. A good photo book usually takes hours to assemble, plus printing and shipping.
